Accuracy & measurement
Accuracy depends on lighting and your camera sensor. Colorimetric Pro computes real CIELAB values (not just a raw RGB guess) and supports a reference-mode calibration step where you compare against a known reference color — this significantly improves consistency across lighting conditions. For lab-grade precision, a dedicated colorimeter will always be more accurate, but for practical matching, design, and tracking-over-time use cases, Colorimetric Pro gets you very close.
RGB describes color the way a screen displays it — three channel values from 0–255. CIELAB (L*a*b*) is a perceptually-uniform color space designed to match how the human eye actually perceives differences between colors, which is why it's the standard used in professional color matching, paint, and print industries. Colorimetric Pro gives you both.
Every visible color corresponds to a wavelength (or mix of wavelengths) of light, measured in nanometers. Colorimetric Pro estimates the dominant wavelength from your reading — useful in optics, physics education, and any context where you need to describe color in physical rather than purely visual terms.
The color name shown (like "Cornflower Blue") is a descriptive label generated from the measured hue, saturation, and brightness — it's meant as a quick, human-friendly summary alongside the precise numeric values (RGB, HEX, CIELAB), not a match against a specific commercial color-naming standard.
Using the app
Yes — color picking, analysis, recording, and export all run entirely on your device. You only need an internet connection to sign in the first time and to manage your subscription.
Yes. From the Home screen, choose "Upload image" to analyze any photo from your gallery, or "Capture image" to take a new one.
Record continuously logs color readings over time at an interval you choose (from milliseconds to minutes), which is ideal for tracking a color change — like a reaction, a drying paint sample, or a fading dye. A single reading just captures one moment.
You can export saved colors, palettes, and recordings as CSV (for spreadsheets and further analysis) or PDF (a clean, shareable report with the color values and charts).
Subscriptions & billing
The free Basic plan gives you full color picking with HEX, RGB, HSV, and CIELAB readings, plus up to 20,000 saved colors, 20,000 saved palettes, and 20,000 PDF/CSV exports, valid for 300 days. The RGB Analysis wave view is a Gold-plan feature — see the pricing table for what's included in each plan.
